Mobile applications are leaving their infancy and moving toward broad-based acceptance and necessity. Mobile development is evolving at a rapid pace and is leaving its crude tools and code origins. The question is: “where is it going?” The answer can be found in the recent pronouncement by Steve Jobs and announcement by Microsoft. The mobile platform and its use by children through great-grandparents have given the platform vendors an excuse to close off parts of the technology and dictate what and how the developer can do. We will discuss what applications are doing now, where they are going, what the platforms are moving toward and how a developer can possible keep up with the changes.
